Overdue

Fucking study week. Thought i could take the chance to get some R&R and guess what.. i was bloody wrong. Assignments and test. Puts into perspective that i’ve got some studying to do. I’m not even sure if i will pass on of my test, i did put a fair bit of effort into my assignments. Well fuck that.. Onwards to the tri-factor of band reviews i promised! Kasier Chiefs - Employment, Audioslave - Out of Exile & Art School

Kaiser Chiefs approach of post punk/art rock has a very strong 80’s feel to their groove. I’ve been known to denounce 80’s music or even the style as being stupid and just plain wrong, however Kaiser Chief did something right and hit me on the right tune. Their musical approach is very energetic and fun. First track Everyday i love you less and less starts out with 80’s style synths and signature drums.. followed by slightly monotonous after a while but when the slightly poppy guitar riffs kicks in.. the fun begins. I Predict a Riot is one of my favourite songs of the album. Once the track starts, you’d be able to predict that its gonna be fairly energetic. I particularly enjoyed the guitar riff on this track. Energetic guitar and drum wokr accompanied by hand-claps. Given the chance you should check out the video. Its excellent. Saturday Night is another really good track. Track starts with sound of an engine starting up, synthesisers and vocal hums, then the drums kicks in for a concoction of images of 80’s bad hair cut, synth work and a bloody good time. Lyric-wise i have to say Kaiser Chiefs arent the best on the planet, however their packaging is excellent: fun, energetic approach! And i guess thats their reason of being, having a bloody good time!

Audioslave - Out of Exile, the love-child of RATM & Soundgarden, i think there’s an identity crisis going on, tinge of Soundgarden’s grunge and the famed RATM sound fused by blues heavy hard rock. Audioslave’s sound is approaching hard rock with a slight tinge of grunge and funk. Listening to Audioslave is like a crash course of having bothRATM and Soundgarden
jumbled together with hard rock as the main influence which isnt bad. Chris Cornell’s voice is as always mind-shattering. Tom Morello, Tim Commerford and Brad Wilk shows they haven’t soften down after the RATM ’s disbanding. Tom Morello’s signature distort and effect heavy guitar playing-style perfectly matches Chris Cornell’s strong gruffy voice which heavily shows in The Worm. Its fairly slow in pace, but its exceptionally powerful. Cornell’s strong voice works exceptionally well with the rest of the band, like having a cigarette after a good meal, or an ice cold coke to wash down a double cheese burger. It just fucking melts together into a ear-melting sonic assault. I especially enjoyed Morello’s signature guitar work half-way through the track, and Chris Cornell as usual did not disappoint. The Curse has a slight Soundgarden feel to the music. Slow, distorted and powerful yet with a tad of grunge and heavy blues influence. Cornell soul-fully barks out the meaningful lyrics with his signature gruff. Simply heavenly. The highpoint of the track is where Cornell’s vocal work gives way to the instrumentalists to show what they can do. Drums, bass and lead guitar are first class. “As i’m howling at the moon, why don’t you kill yourself, i will be alone” - is that Soundgarden or what?

Art School, having found some mp3’s that my sister had in her pc and being the person that i am where i’m easily suckered by a good name, i double clicked and i’m wonderfully surprised by this obscure (to me) japanese alternative band. Art School reminds of The Pixies a lot with their heavily distorted yet melodic guitar work. The vocal work is in japanese so i have no bloody idea what the vocalist are singing about, but i did feel his songs. Some of the songs were heavily angst driven, its kinda like mashing Nirvana with The Pillows. And its awesome. Theres not much i can say about this band, with the track titles in japanese, what i can tell you is if you have the chance to get some of the songs, have a good listen.
